Alverta L. Wallace of Lewiston will celebrate her 90th birthday with an open house at the Asotin County Gerontology Center at Clarkston from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.
She was born at Bakersfield, Calif. Nov. 27, 1894. She moved from Bakersfield to Lebanon, Ore., in a covered wagon. She attended school there for a short time before moving to Dayton, Wash. When she was in the second grade, she and her family moved to Mohler, Idaho, near Craigmont. She made the move riding a mule and helping drive the cattle.
She lived there two years, moved to Reubens for two years, then to Tammany, where she finished the eighth grade. She then attended Lewiston Normal School.
She married Russell Wallace Nov. 21, 1914. They lived at Anatone, where they farmed and he worked for the Asotin County Highway Department. He died Feb. 22, 1969, and she moved to Lewiston two years later.
She is active in Anatone United Methodist Church and the Lewiston Christian Church. She is a member of Rebekahs at Clarkston and belongs to both the past noble grand in Washington and Idaho.
She is a 54-year member of the Polly Anna Club at Anatone and also belongs to and is active in the Asotin Gerontology at Clarkston and the Banana Belt Senior Citizens at Lewiston.
She has two daughters, four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great granchildren.
