Mellie Phillips will be honored this afternoon from 2 to 4 at an open house at the home of Richard Phillips, 1007 6th St., Lewiston, in observance of her 80th birthday.
She was born Jan. 16, 1903, at Sugar City, Colo. She moved with her family to Wyoming where she met and married Harry Phillips June 16, 1921. They lived at Chicago while he attended Chicago College of Dental Surgery and in 1926 they moved to Lewiston where he practiced dentistry until his retirement in 1972. He died in 1978.
They had five children, three who are still living, George W. and Richard, both of Lewiston, and Sandra Lea Bostick of Seattle. She has 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, she is a 51-year member. She also is a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and the Episcopal Church of the Nativity.
